Some of the reasons students have joined Gizmos and Gadgets in the past . . .
build cool contraptions that will amaze your cat!
enjoy assembling cool things with hot glue!
build a robot that destroys every other robot in Smith!
be your own boss!
get a huge plate of cookies at the end of the year.
Regardless of why you join, Gizmos and Gadgets aims to have fun, challenge your creativity, and grow as a club every year.
THE START: We all start with assembling basic kits such as rubber band cars and electric racers to make sure you have the fundamentals necessary to move on.
THE NEXT LEVEL: After you accomplish the introductory goals, you will get to choose your own maker projects: mousetrap cars, remote control cars, balsa wood planes, hovercrafts, rockets, and perhaps even battlebots if you are worthy.
NEED A CHALLENGE: For those students who dream of making it to the Gizmo and Gadget Hall of Fame, we will provide an array of fun, hi-tech components like Micro:bit boards, Kitronik Micro:bit expansion packs, and radio frequency r/c. Be warned, though, that the instructor knows next to nothing about these more advanced projects, so bring your A game. Also be aware that while Gizmos and Gadgets instructors are always here to help you, we enjoy getting our picture in the Smith newsletter, so we might take more credit for your projects than we deserve. Just sayin’.
This club will culminate by featuring all student projects --- basic, intermediate, and advanced--- at the Smith STEM Showcase in the Spring where there is a big table of plate-sized cookies for all participants. Mmmm. Now, what other clubs do that?
